Allied Pipefreezing Services Ltd were contracted to carry out the temporary isolation of the existing Fire suppression system in order to allow the pipework modifications to be carried out. The system was frozen in two places holding back the entire ships fire sprinkler system. A small section of pipe was removed to allow the new pieces to be installed. APS held the Pipefreeze for 3 hours allowing the completion of the pipework modification.
The new sections incorporated two new tee sections complete with new isolation valves. The new tee’s were installed on each of the existing pipe open ends to which new isolation valves were fitted to the branches. A new section of pipe was then installed between the new tee sections. Once the works were completed APS allowed the freezes to thaw, putting the new section back into service. All works were inspected for leaks by the Lloyds Register inspector. The works completed passed with flying colours allowing the vessel to stick to its schedule and continue with its voyage at the planned departure time.
